En un puente sobre el río Sena, el oficial de policía Javert jura bajo las estrellas de París que no cederá en su empeño de dar caza al fugitivo Val Jean. El honor y la justicia son su única guía y solo reconoce como dignos de libertad a aquellos que se guía por el camino de la rectitud y la corrección.
